The others analysis - Research and Planning
The Others
The Others is a 2001 psychological thriller film by the Spanish director Alejandro AmenĂ¡bar, starring Nicole Kidman, and in part based on Henry Jame's classic, The Turn of the Screw. A psychological thriller means to incorporate elements from the mystery and drama genre in addition to the typical traits of the thriller genre.
This film poster shows a women holding a oil lamp. The women looks scared and frightened and the rest of the screen is black meaning evil. This gives the effect of it being in the 1940's period during world war II. The lamp itself brightens up the image by making it focus on the women. The lamp is very bright making it look as though she is wanting to go into the light.
Nicole Kidman is starring in the film so they use her as a main key in the poster. This makes audiences who like her want to come and view this film.
The titles itself is done in white against a black screen again using the representation of going into the light. It also shows beams coming off of it again using the same aspect.
The tag line right at the top reads 'sooner or later they will find you'. This is made to scare the audience. This is a great giverway that the film is going to be scary.
