Mirrors analysis - Research and Planning

Mirrors
Mirrors is a 2008 horror film directed by Alexandre Aja, and stars Kiefer Sutherland. The film was first titled Into the Mirror, but the name was later changed to Mirrors. Filming began on May 1, 2007, and it was released in American theaters on August 15, 2008.

This poster in cooperates the film title into the image by firstly having the reflection of the boy sitting on the ground and the couple standing above him. The reflection on the floor is very dark and grey giving it a evil eerie feel to the image.
The location looks as though its in a normal house. There doesn't seem to be anything abnormal about it except for the water on the floor. A house is a key horror location is in many horror films for the location for example the last house on the left which i analysed earlier.
The couple are a key aspect to this poster because if you were to recognise them this may make you want to go see the film. The female icon may be a male attraction for viewers to come see the film. The male being Kiefer Sutherland is a well known actor and also attracts audiences by having his name above the image.

The main title is in red meaning blood and death which again relates to the horror aspect. A lot of films that i have analysed that are horror genre they all seem to contain the colour red in the title colour. This is a generic horror key. The word mirrors is in a much larger font making it stand out above anything. Also the fact that the R is turned around the other way reflecting the other R gives another sense of reflection.
The film poster also has a tag line at the bottom saying There is evil on the other side. The effect of having it split apart across the page again gives it a sense of reflection but also shows the boy in full view. The wording is made for the audience to recognise that its a scary film. By having this the audience know straight away that they are expected to be scared.
