Magazine Front Cover Ananlysis

This is the magazine front cover which Empre arefocusing on the film the Dark Knight. With the tragic death of Heath Ledger many people will see the front cover and will want to see what he has to say. Throughout the amazing market campaign the Dark Knight had, the joker was a spear head in it. Without him it would not have been as entertaining and this is why Empire have chosen to use him as the USP.
  • The colour scheme used on the cover matches in with what the joker is wearing. His iconic purple trousers and shirt with a green waistcoat match the rest of the cover. The title used saying 'Meet the Joker' is in green with a unique font and will catch the readers attention. Then underneath that title is a caption stating ' One on One with the Batman's New Nemesis'. This will lure the reader into buying the magazine as they will want to see what the joker has to say.
  • Above the title of the magazine, there is a title saying ' The Dark Knight Exclusive'. In between 'Knight' and exclusive' is the Batman's logo which has been edited, showing white light shining out of it. It makes it seem powerful and that no other magazine will have a Dark Knight Exclusive.
  • The background used makes the Joker seem bad, as it looks like a jail cell. By placing him in a cell it immediately tells the audience that he is bad and he is going to be the main villain in the film.
  • To make the Joker look even more creepy and crazy they have positioned him in a certain way. They have shown his socks which are a crazy match of colours which most people will not usually wear. Also they have made him look downwards with one of his eyebrows raised. This makes him look inquisitive and is teasing the audience.
  • It also includes other features for people who are not interested in the Dark Knight, including Sweeney Todd and I Am Legend.
  • Date and price are also included which we will put into ours.

We can take different aspects of this cover and put it in to ours. Firstly the exclusive Dark Knight title is key as it draws in the die hard Batman fans. Secondly the way they have made the Joker look is good as it teases the audience. If we could use similar fonts and styles it will help make our magazine front cover look professional.
