Film Poster

The next section of our marketing campaign for 'Welcome To The Neighbourhood' is to create the main film poster. This is a crucial part of any marketing campaign and we need to decide and debate many things on what we're going to include with it. If we were making our film for real this part would be a key part with posters being a great way to attract the target audience. A set of teaser posters would of been released before this and with the poster would be a few others to add some variety to them.

The different aspects of a main film poster are the following :
  • Genre indicators - Anything on the poster which tells the audience what genre this film is going to be. For example a horror poster may have its titles and writing in red, symbolizing that the film may include blood and gore.
  • Title / font branding - A great example of this is Toy Story. The font they use for their titles is recognized by most people and therefore they could simply create a poster with a few words in that font and people would straight away realize that it is do with Toy Story. We are going to use similar font styles throughout our marketing campaign.
  • Eye catching - If you create a poster which doesn't look appealing or interesting then there was no point in making one at all. A poster has to grab the audiences eyes and make them want to either go see the film or find out more about the film.
  • Straight forward - A poster which is too complicated will not attract an audience at all. It has to be straight forward but give enough information to entice the audience.
  • A main poster will usually include something to do with the main selling point of the film. For example a film starring a huge star like Matt Damon would have him being the centre point of the poster.
  • To make the poster stick in the audiences mind a tag line could be used. This is a phrase which sells the film and makes the audience want to know pay money to watch it. For example 'The Strangers' tag line is 'Because you were home'. We are going to use a tag line to make our poster look professional.
  • When you see a poster you will usually never look at all the small font with the credits. In ours we are going to use this to make it look as authentic as possible.
  • The date it comes out is key. For smaller films precise dates will be needed but a film like Toy Story 3 can simply put summer 2010.
  • Peoples interest in directors has grown in recent years. A film made by Quinton Tarrintino will be watched by people, regardless of the storyline.
If we can include many of the things above we will create a professional poster which will continue to be used in our marketing campaign.
