Evaluation of Film Poster : Evaluation

The film poster is the final part of our marketing campaign. We created the poster after thorough research into other horror film posters to see what they used as their main selling point.

  • The main selling point of the poster is the low angle shot of the villain holding an axe in his hand. The black jacket worn by the figure indicates to the audience that this is the villain of the film. The low angle shot shows that the villain is the superior character in the film. The back is purposely turned to face the camera shot that the identity of villain is not reveled and leaves an enigma for the audience of who the person is.

  • The position of the character is to the left of the poster and is the biggest picture in the poster, this is purposely done to have it bigger than the house in the background and to tell the audience that the villain is going to over power the house in the background.

  • The axe the villain is holding is the genre indicator of the film which is a horror. This also tells the audience the villains primary weapon, this is essential in horror films as it makes each film unique.

  • The poster is darkened to give it a more scary look, the darkness also indicates when most of the action will happen and like horror films it happens in the dark.

  • Finally the release date given is summer 2010 and is not exact, this will keep the audiences enticed to the film and they will want to know the exact date of release.

Overall i think this is a very effective teaser poster, it tells the audience everything they need to know about the film and production, the main thing that a film poster needs to do is tell the audience the title of the film, the release date and the genre. However looking back at the poster now i feel that the date of release could have been in a bigger font just to be more clear and audiences can spot it easily.
